Frequently asked questions

How does in-browser watermark removal work?

FreeSnip uses an advanced Content-Aware Inpainting algorithm (Fast Marching Method and directional isophote propagation) implemented directly in JavaScript. It analyzes neighboring pixels and textures outside the marked area to synthesize a seamless, natural background.

Can it remove date timestamps, copyright text, and corner logos?

Yes! You can use the Brush tool to paint over irregular watermarks or use the Box Select tool to instantly cover rectangular stamps and timestamps.

Will the image resolution or quality decrease?

Photos up to 3000 pixels on the longest side keep their full size. Larger ones are scaled down to 3000 pixels so the page stays fast.

Are my private photos uploaded to any external server?

Never. All computations happen in your browser’s local memory using HTML5 Canvas and typed arrays. No files are ever sent over the network.
